For this event we will be meeting with Euan Hills, owner of Art Mob gallery, as he shares his immense knowledge of aboriginal art.
Before the advent of the dot painting movement at Papunya in 1971/72 art practices existed in many forms in Aboriginal communities across Australia. Across the top, it included paintings done with ochre on bark for ceremonies that westerners saw for the first time in the 1970’s but the walls of caves and shelter sites were the real art sites.
Thousands of years of history and culture can be found across the Kimberley and through to Far North Queensland as rock art. Similar imagery is now presented by artists as paintings on fabrics that can be accommodated in modern living.
As we tour Euans extensive gallery collection, he will explain how thousands of years of storytelling via rock art influences contemporary aboriginal art.
